Decay

By Jen Ricci

The body lay there in the dark
Her black bridal dress still beautiful, like her, in death.
Rotting skins in the huge room that served for purpose
Her eyes keep looking at me to find the guilt of failure
She’s long gone long dead like all around here.
I manage to walk past the table and the cake the plates lie there
A banquet consumed a macabre souvenir
Of times gone.
It’s all untouched since a long ago
Untouched and brimming in decay
You too my gothic bride your beautiful face, beautiful in life and so
In death.
Because I’m dead too like all around here
Why should I not be but the soul may live.
The soul may be eternal like our love

Although in this very moment all I see is a room
And us in here
Looking at our corpses lying in death
Look at you sleeping the eternal life.
I love you my bride I love you . . .
